My Summer Leadership Development 2024 Reads

a person sitting on a beach reaching a book with the heading Summer 2024 Reads

One of my favorite summer activities is lounging under an umbrella, whether on a patio or the beach, and soaking in a good book. My reading preferences are wide, but focus mostly on leadership development. I set out to refresh my reading list with some new books from the past couple of years. Some of these books I’ve started, and some are on my ‘to read’ list. Are any of these on your must read list?

Tom D’Eri shares his personal journey and strategies for building an inclusive workplace that leverages the potential of a nontraditional workforce. This book is a must-read for leaders looking to innovate and create a more inclusive culture.

Alex Draper, the Founder of DX Learning, has created the CARE Equation: a four-part playbook that will help leaders establish an environment where employees not only feel comfortable speaking up, but one in which they want to stay and feel like they can win.

Hamel and Zanini argue for a radical rethinking of organizational structures, advocating for human-centric workplaces that empower employees. "Humanocracy" provides a roadmap for creating more agile and innovative organizations.

Donald Miller offers a comprehensive guide to mastering essential business skills in just 60 days. This book is packed with practical advice and actionable steps for leaders and entrepreneurs at any stage of their career.

"Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment" by Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony , and Cass R. Sunstein

The authors explore the concept of "noise" – the variability in judgments that should be identical – and its impact on decision-making. "Noise" offers insights into reducing errors and improving consistency in business decisions.

Gostick and Elton highlight the power of gratitude in leadership and its impact on employee engagement and performance. This book provides practical strategies for integrating gratitude into your leadership style.

Lindstrom tackles the inefficiencies and frustrations of corporate bureaucracy, offering solutions to streamline processes and enhance productivity. "The Ministry of Common Sense" is a humorous yet insightful guide to cutting through the red tape.

As remote work becomes the norm, Tsedal Neeley provides a comprehensive guide to thriving in a virtual work environment. This book covers everything from communication strategies to building a strong remote team culture.

Varol, a former rocket scientist, shares unconventional strategies for thinking creatively and solving complex problems. "Think Like a Rocket Scientist" is a fascinating read for anyone looking to innovate and achieve breakthrough results.

Dorie Clark advocates for long-term thinking in a world that often prioritizes short-term gains. This book offers practical advice on how to cultivate patience, resilience, and strategic thinking to achieve lasting success.

I had to throw my own book in here! It’s been out for two years and as of recently it’s available almost anywhere you buy books, so there’s no reason for you not to have a copy!

Now grab one of these books and find a great place to lounge and soak in some new knowledge.
